How can I make it the default application for opening JPG files as well as I dislike the Photos app? I have tried the usual right-clicking on a JPG file and selecting "Open with" but Windows Photo Viewer does not appear as an option on this menu and furthermore I cannot locate it in Program Files when I select the option "Look for another app

Got it, thanks So the problem is isolated to the JPG file in your external hard drive If that's the case, I suggest first to run a full virus scan via Windows Security, or any other security apps you have installed, including that external hard drive
